The gist of January and February.

This probably isn't the best thing to do when you're having a bit of a back problem but, the urge to blog, for me, comes ever-so-rarely and I thus, I wouldn't want this temporary zest go to waste. After all, it's just my spine, who needs spines right?!
Kidding.

I'm in the midst of reading self-motivation articles right now as I've never been in a ... slumpier (?) state before. Despite being only (almost) seventeen, I can't help but feel like the weight of the world is resting atop my flimsy/spindly shoulders. I guess we always feel like that don't we? It's five years down the line when we look back that we see how minute whatever it is we were fussing about was.

So... exams. They're around the corner. Again.
SIGH.
I'm quite happy that I've no longer go to fret about Biology as I have, very bravely dropped it. I guess eleven subjects were just a bit too much for me especially considering two of which were Chemistry and Biology. So after some thinking, I concluded that as fun as studying the factors that affect the rate of transpiration can be, I've still got some prioritization to do and thus, didn't sign up for Biology.
Since the main reason of my blogging was to derail just a bit from the growing stress that comes with exams, let me just stop here with academia and move on to more interesting bits of my life.

January and February have come and gone, almost. Thus, I shall attempt to fill that little void of two post-less months in this one. Forgive me if you've come back often in hopes of something new and very often been disappointed although I doubt there are such loyal readers of this space out there.

ANYWAYS, one of the biggest things that happened in January (besides starting the last year of secondary school) was Assunta Spirit Week. As if the title doesn't already speak for itself, Assunta Spirit Week is essentially a week to cultivate school spirit which the Prefectorial Board organizes within the first few weeks of school. It's just a little 'fun' week with themed dress-up days and such to psych students up for another semester.
It's nothing much but I can help but feel a little nostalgia as my last Assunta Spirit Week has in fact, come and gone already.

Yeahhh, I look like a complete dork in both pictures but, that's the best I could find. :) In case you're wondering why we've folded our hands like that in the first picture, it was the last day of school before the Chinese New Year break. That kinda explains the DIY cherry blossoms and red drapery as well, if you noticed.

Besides ASW, we finally got to meet our Japanese pen-pals last January. It was the 18th if I'm not mistaken, and we spent an entire day with our Japanese buddies. Definitely something to tell my grandkids about. :)

My partner, Tanaka Miyu was the cutest person to ever walk this planet (besides me, like duh!). She got me Japanese perfume and mascara (which I haven't yet mastered completely) and a bunch of other things. She loves strawberry ice-cream just like me and had two cones at New Zealand Natural at KLCC. And her birthday is on Valentines Day (which kinda reminds me, I completely forgot. How typical, urgh). Let me not bore you no longer with my lack of expressive skills and have a look at some pictures instead.

That's Miyu and the mess I made with the henna stamped across her hand, anddd, that's Miyu, Khai Lee, her partner and I in front of Suria KLCC.

In February, I spent most of my time preparing for SEA Forensics, the Wira Debate and of course homework and exams.
SEA Forensics was a bit of a disaster. I mean who wins against ISKL anyway? Wira was slightly better as we snagged Silver for District level. It was hosted in Assunta so 3/4 of the time I was dealing with the technicalities of the tournament like room allocations, managing volunteers and such.
Also, Rheena had a little do at her place for Chinese New Year.

Blame the Picasa uploader for the bad photo's.
And with that (just like my Chem teacher), we've reached the end of this post. Also pardon me for any spelling/grammar errors as I'm just too lazy to proof read this post (this and all the others).

Already?

Uniform ironed, fingernails clipped short, textbooks wrapped, school bag packed, but I'm still not quite ready for school. It's quite hard to digest the fact that it's my final year at Assunta. It's senior year wayyy too soon.

Le sigh.

Vexing mall goers.

Every now and then, you meet people or encounter things that just tick you off. It happens quite often to me considering my low tolerance level. Since all these little frustrations have been mounding up in me after countless times of suppressing my rage to prevent any kind of public showdown, I've decided that it's about time to let some of these things out of me.

This list or whatever it is it turns out to be, is in no particular chronology. Just things then I remember as I go on typing. So, here we go-

#1 Casual Queue Cutters
Sometime ago, I was lining up to get my receipt checked at Giant as there was a free gift for one of my purchases. The free gift counter also happens to be the express counter for people with only a few things to check out, below ten items if I'm not mistaken. In front of me there was an old Japanese man struggling to converse with the cashier and behind me an Indian girl. After sometime this really big Indian guy lines up behind the girl. Two seconds later, he decides lining up is for losers and opted to speed things up for himself by leaving his basket which was completely loaded with things on the checkout counter, bypassing me and pretends like he's done nothing wrong.

I, being the usual innocent and kind samaritan I am assume that maybe his basket was too heavy and he was simply resting on the counter. After the Japanese man leaves, he pushed his way in front of my before I can hand my receipt to the cashier and the confused cashier begins to start checking his basketful of meat and other rubbish out.
Fuming but trying hard to not have an outburst (to avoid a knuckle sandwich, I figured my defense won't stand a chance against his ... flab?), I helplessly wait for another 10 minutes.

Yesterday, I was queuing with my sister to pay for some books I picked up. Before I know it, this middle aged Chinese man who shares the same school of thought as the Indian dude from Giant decides to squeeze his large self beside the guy who was paying. Again, being quite oblivious to what was happening I just stood in line hoping he doesn't cut in front. Before I know it, he's moving from beside the guy in front of me into the line- in front of me. I kinda figured what was happening by now and again, suppressing my rage, I just move to the counter beside since it was almost vacant by then. I then couldn't help it, but very loudly said to my sister to come out of the line as well since it was taking so long because of some rude people who had to cut the line. Crimson faced Chinese man stares at me and it's my turn to pay.
Fortunately for me, unfortunately for him, karma exists and the system breaks down juuuust before he pays. Aww too bad. >:)

I don't get it. Is it really that stressful to queue up? Does it hurt so much to stand in line and wait for your turn?

I just don't get this mentality. I understand that, maybe you could be in a hurry or something but instead of just squeezing yourself through and causing everyone to get irritated, why not just ask the people in front of you if you could go first? Is it really that much of a hurry to not be able to open your mouth?

#2 Loud mouths
I hate this sort of people. People who can't convey a message without having the whole floor hear them. Honestly, I don't need to know when the plumber's fixing your kitchen sink.

Loud mouths are divided into may categories-
  • Proud native language speakers - Whether it's Mandarin, Tamil or any other native language, these people will choose to boast to all around them that they're proud of their mother tongue. I'm Tamil and my parents and I do sometimes converse in Tamil but I think we all (besides my dad maybe) know how to keep our volume at a suitable level.
  • Cranky parents - These parents will be scolding their child so loud at a bookstore that you'd be stuck reading the same sentence for as long as the blasting lasts.
  • Bimbo gurlz (AMAGAD) - This explains itself really, they bunch of people who squeal when they see something they love. -.- Really? REALLY?
  • Video game buffs - The sort of people, boys in general, who need to let the whole store know that they beat their friend in some  video game.
  • Defensive teenage brats - Go figure, no need for an explanation. Amen.
I've got nothing much to comment on this one, since I have been guilty of being a loud mouth once or twice.

#3 Klutzilla's
I'm a bit of a klutz myself as well but I try my best to be aware of things around me so I don't bump into anyone or anything. Sometimes you see people who have a hundred huge shopping bags on both their arms plus their handbags and throw in a DSLR and a bagel (?) and they're working their way through racks of clothes and accessories and can't help but bump into everything, drop things and of course, hit people. On top of that, they would probably wearing the most unstable or noisy pairs of shoes which, surprise, surprise increases their possibility of banging into some innocent shopper.

If you've already bought so much, do you really need to buy some more? After all it's our last year here on Earth, why would you need that many pieces of clothing? (Kidding!!) Well, if your ten shopping bags are not enough for one day, and you need more, why not just leave those bags in your car or something. Why hog so many bags and torture yourself and people around you?!

#4 John and Kate Plus Eight Believers
I'm sure every now and then you'd see a young couple with a football team of toddlers and kids. These parents, would let their kids play hide in seek in a store that's as spacious as Diva (very not spacious) and be so preoccupied by which earrings match their eyes better or which pair of shoes looks better with their pants. Their kids will be having a field day irritating everyone around them by standing in the way or rolling on the floor or crying or picking up everything that sparkles or has Ben 10 on it. OR even worst, in shoe stores, they would sprawl themselves on the limited seats leaving people to get into their shoes standing.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a bitter teenager that can't stand kids. Infact, I love children and could spend hours watching their silly antics. I don't blame the children for being restless. I mean what would you have done at Vincci when you were four? What I'm trying to say is that these parents should pay more attention to their kids and if they need to do some serious shopping and happen to have more children than they can manage, why not send them to a nursery or leave them at a friends house while they shop? It's unfair on both the children and the other people at the mall.

#5 Escalator Delinquents
This sort of people are very dangerous as their effects may cause serious injury. Sometimes you're going to get on the escalator and are waiting to place your feet on the escalator steps when they barge into you and force you place your feet partially on the steps and lose your balance. I just can't stand this sort of people, I've seen them do it to kids and even elderly people. What is your rush? Will allowing the person before you take 3 seconds extra on the escalator kill you? Really man.

I guess the list has come to an end. Please excuse my cranky behavior. I've just come home from a very packed Midvalley Megamall and having to pull through all these encounters in a three hour span has taken a toll on this blog.

Merry Christmas errybody!

P/s- Since this post was so boring and annoying, let me brighten things up with a picture taken at Wonderland- ICSMKA's Year End Appreciation Party. We slogged like dogs till 1 AM at my place for this party and I guess it was worth it. :)

High on altitude, high on adrenaline.

I've been meaning to blog about this since forever but with my lack of commitment towards anything, it was quite hard to whip up a decent post. I'm becoming more of a 140 characters person. Little excerpts are a lot easier to do nowadays.

Sometimes you come face to face with one of your greatest fears. Sometimes you come face to face with two of your greatest fears. Sometimes you come face to face with two of your greatest fears twice.

All smiles! #pumped
That pretty much sums up my 14th of November, with a sprinkle of fun and a dash of bliss.

My friend Jasreena, celebrated her sixteenth birthday at this place called Skytrex. Skytrex is basically a very, very big plot of green land. And what you there is basically swing from one tree to another. No, really. It's kind of like a mega obstacle course suspended 20 meters above the ground and the main idea is to get from one tree to another via flying foxes, tiny wood planks, ropes, PVC pipes etc.

Get it? I hope so.

Honestly speaking, between just you and me, I was terrified. I'm not much of a dare-devil and the idea of being up to 20 feet above didn't seem to excite me either. Instead it made my tummy turn and got my palms drenched in sweat.

1. Jas and her little cousin Shevin. 2. Dania, Aida, Pavi and a random weirdo with Shevin. 3. Litta boi that likes dolphin balloons. 4. Jas blowing out her candles on her pretty cake. 5. Two stray monkeys. 6. Still #pumped.

The day actually began on a relaxed note, we reached Skytrex at about 11 AM if I'm not mistaken (since all of this now seems like quite a distant memory after all the sleep I've had these holidays). We waited in the hot sun for our ride to the SkyDeck. At the SkyDeck, we had our lunch and Jas blew out her 16 candles. There was plenty of tasty food but I could barely think of food at that stage since my stomach was in knots. After some chit-chatting and photo-taking, the time I dreaded had come. Despite the fear though, I was partially excited.
All clad in our equipment ready to take on the world. Such promising faces.
We applied our repellant and with determined faces (and shaky hands) we got into our harnesses. We had to go through a little briefing cum trial run before the real thing. The trial was really quite simple and not one bit as scary as the actual course.

We opted for the Big Thrill challenge and it began at an intimidating PVC ladder that reminded me of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Upon climbing the ladder and crossing the net bridge, lo and behold a tiny world far above everyone else.

As much as I complained and whined, I had to admit, it was quite serene being so high up everyone else. Five minutes of serenity and the biggest nightmare of my life began.

I was halfway through a challenge that required you to walk across wooden planks placed in a zig-zag manner. I was quite confident and the altitude didn't really scare me. UNTIL, I see this splotch of green in the middle of the challenge.  I'd recognize those beady eyes and disgusting skin from anywhere- Lizard alert. The critter was moving towards me at an alarming pace. My natural instincts told me to start scrambling backwards since screaming didn't do any good. Clumsily backing up in a zig-zag fashion, I reach the platform and the lizard followed trying to climb onto my shoes. Nabihah then came to the rescue and casually kicked it off like a pro. I sped through the planks after that in maximum velocity but for the rest of the challenges I was quite traumatized because I kept imagining the dumb critter popping up out of nowhere.

Thus, I opted for the shortcut and bypassed about four challenges. When I reached the platform after the shortcut, Pavi and Florence are screaming at me from the next platform. They're both laughing while attempting to call me a monkey. Or at least that's what I thought.

Ignoring their insanity that was an all time high that day, I begin to hook my carabiners onto the wire and then, it dons on me that they weren't teasing me but warning me about the two humungous monkeys a few feet behind me. I was about to scream again, but already aware that it wouldn't do any good, I move on to hook my pulley and turn towards the next platform and refuse to look behind me. After what seemed like an eternity, my friends finally moved from that particular platform and I take the flying fox there. In your face monkeys! >:)

The rest of the day was pretty much a blur besides all of Jas's uncles teasing me. Most of her aunties were afraid of lizards too which was quite comforting. :)

All in all, I enjoyed the entire day. The lizard and monkey encounter was very unnecessary but, I would be ever willing to go on all those flying foxes again! It was quite blissful to glide from tree to tree with a birds eye view of all the greenery below. I definitely enjoyed that part. And the food part of course.

On the way back home after getting drenched in rainwater and sweat.
If you're looking for a way to start the New Year with a bang, why not try the Big Thrill Adventure yourself at Skytrex? I survived with all my limbs intact, I'm sure you will.

P/s- I apologize for the photo quality since lugging my DSLR there seemed like a crazy idea and thus, I had to rely on Pavi for photos.

No more exams, no more maid. +Nicole's Party Pics

Exams are finally over. I never thought this day would come. I thought I wouldn't make it through to today in one piece, but I did.

We've already gotten some of our results back even though exams only ended today. I guess I'm quite satisfied with most of the marks I've gotten but just not Add Maths. I felt like I put in quite a lot of effort for Add Math and spent hours and hours doing mind-boggling sums. BUT, I still did so badly. I'm just so frustrated, I feel like tearing everything up. Urgh. My mom thinks I've inherited her mental block for Add Maths and I'm beginning to think so too. I'm still not going to give up though, I'll get an A the next time, I WILL.

Day #1 of maid-lessness is winding up and coming to an end. Our maid has gone back to Indon after months of dwindling on whether or not to visit her very, very ill relation. After crying her eye-balls out one morning, she finally decided to go back for a visit. We don't really think she's going to come back though. So, we're getting used to our old maidless routines.

Our day was quite distinctly different today, not the usual. My mom took us out for lunch and then I slept the rest of the afternoon off. I was beat after the killer month of exams ... and Secret Recipe food made me feel like a lazy pig. In the evening we went to buy some Punjabi suits, had Indian dinner and watched the second half of a Hindi movie we rented. Now, my sister's running around the house like a maniac trying to tidy things up whilst locating her missing prefect skirt. I just loaded the washing machine and am ready to hit the sack again. But first, a few things must be settled.

I guess we'll do fine. We're all feeling a lot closer and happier now that the maid is gone. Don't really know why but there seems to be a new air of happiness in the one gloomy Seran household. We're helping each other out and doing things for one another and I guess it has 'mengeratkan hubungan'.

I should get back to finishing up some overdue printing work and maybe clean up the shipwreck in my room. Here'r a few pictures from Nicole's Pool Party last last Saturday;-

The birthday girl blowing out her candles. What a pretty cake. *:)
Chilling by the poolside along with the monkeys which you can't see in these pics.

#1 Awkward smiles
#2 Happy people that wanted to be on my blog
#3 One of those stray monkeys
Nighttime!
Goodnight!

Not-so-usual Deepavali

Deepavali was yesterday and I'm Indian. And no, I don't need to listen to more Rebecca Black to get my days right. This was supposed to be posted on Thursday but due to some reasons, I could't get it up on my blogpage. :(

It's okay, better late then never right?

My grandmother passed away quite recently and as per family custom, we're not really allowed to 'celebrate' Deepavali. Meaning we can't buy or wear new clothes, we can't host parties and entertain people or go to the temple or light up the prayer lamp at home until her 30th day death anniversary prayers as a sign of respect.

So, we didn't have anything at home. I woke up at 9 (not 6) and had a normal bath (not an oil bath) and the rest of the day went on like any other day, really besides the abundance of food.

At Archie's- Nicole, Jas and I
I know I look a tad preggers in this outfit but let me assure you that it's only the food. :)
I had lunch at my friend, Archanaa's open house with the rest of my friends.

After that, my great-grandmother came over to visit us all the way from Johore so I spent some time with her and some cousins. They brought us cookies and muruku's as we can't make those things at home until after the mourning period. :(

We had a special table in the air-conditioned study room as the tables outside were all occupied. Nice.
I spent my night at Suganti's house. She has a massive open house every year with hundreds of dishes. From mutton curry to string hoppers and appam, everything is catered for. Sometimes she even has 'Fried Ice-Cream' and Ais Kacang (#onlyInMalaysia moment). Her parents own a big catering business so, go figure.

I guess Deepavali 2011 was a very different sort of Deepavali for me. Usually, I spend the entire Deepavali day and days before with family. It's either an elaborate affair in Penang at one of my aunties house with music, firecrackers and a barbeque going or a more mellow Deepavali in KL with just us four and maybe some visiting. Either way, I'm usually surrounded by my ... kin.

This year however, I found myself spending most of my day with my gurls. Not much family. I'm not complaining, cause either way, I'm surrounded by people I love. :)

Happy Deepavali, folks!
(This is however not really relevant now that I'm posting this so late -.-)

P/s- I can't help but reminisce the 'good ol' days' as I type this post. The days I spent in Penang with my grandmother (my late grandmother's from Cameron Highlands) helping her with all the preparations. My sister and I would clean the rooms upstairs and set up a cozy room just for ourselves with cool stuff we found lying around. I'd also help my granny make all those cookies. Murukus, ghee-balls, suji biscuits and a bunch of other Indian sweets that I can't figure out how to type in English.

Stuff up my sleeves

I've braved two dreadful weeks of exams. It's been a rough journey. I don't think I'm going to do very well though. I spent the week before exams which by the way, in my dictionary means massive cramming week, freezing in Cameron Highlands and the week before that I had to go to Ipoh for a day. My grandmother was really ill and soon after, she passed away which explains the who Cameron Highlands thing.

So anyways, I've been pretty stressed out lately and Biology didn't do me much good yesterday. You see, since I already have two elective subjects (Lit and Accounts) on my plate, I'm very seriously considering to drop Biology. So, I didn't really touch much Biology until the night before the exam. Then I wasn't sure if I handed my Physics PEKA report in yet so to be save I did another one, just in case. Which sort of took up more time. Then when I finally started on Biology, I had a splitting headache and could barely understand what I was reading. No seriously, I really couldn't. Then I just felt like it was a waste of time and I should just sleep and brace myself to fail. But then, I felt guilty so I couldn't sleep. So then I woke up again and started reading more Biology which resulted in a worse headache and again, I went back to bed. Then the guilt kicked in yet AGAIN, and I studied again. This whole scenario sort of went on for two hours or so until I finally went to bed, frustrated ttm.

SIGH. Sukirtha, Sukirtha.

What I was really intending to talk about, when I first opened this window (before I got side-tracked) was actually about the things I'm looking forward to after the exams. My short little internet surfing ventures in the midst of textbooks and highlighters got me some cool post-exam, pre-SPM stressing ideas.

1. Sewing and Needlework
I stumbled upon this thrifty blogger who turns her grandmother looking clothes and bad fitting clothes into cool pieces that anyone would wear. She also teaches you some nifty DIY quick fixes for clothes that don't fit and stuff. Since I've got a small wardrobe with a lot of stuff I don't wear and a very teeny allowance, I was really into the whole thrifting thing.
Plus my mom has been considering buying a sewing machine, so if I convince her to buy one, it's all systems go for me and my new (soon-to-be) hobby. I'll tell you (non-existent blog readers), all about my adventures with needles and fabric. That is if I survive.

2. Putting together a Photo-Wall
We've got this big empty wall upstairs just outside my parents room and it's just very ... white and ... plain. My dad has a small (big) obsession to keep walls clean and not put things on them but my mom and I have had enough of that. And so, we've decided to fill the entire wall with framed photographs. Self portraits, family pictures and keepsakes. We've been wanting to do this for awhile but things just keep popping up so, fingers crossed we get to it after my late grandmother's one-month-death anniversary.

Yeap, that's what I'm talking about.

3. Reading (not non-fiction)
I've got a bunch of books just staring at my every time I enter my room (that's a lot of times by the way) and it's getting very daunting. I don't know if I can hold up. Lol.
My dad went to India some weeks ago and he got me all of Dan Brown's books and a new Nicholas Sparks novel. Paperbacks are cheaper there so ... :)

My modest book collection. I'm more of a frugal library person so yeah (ref: point 1.)

4. Movie-marathons with the Bud's
Aishwarya and I have been planning on having a little Nicholas Sparks movie marathon after exams. It's been in our heads ever since Chem class about a month ago. Besides that, my man (woman?) Florence has been trying to tell me how good Korean drama's are and I keep shunning her and instead telling her Bollywood love flicks are better wasting time on, so she's agreed to watch some. And my mom is telling me to have a Bollywood themed post-exam do, like last year (but last year's was on Halloween day so it was a Halloween party- which I am too lazy to tell you about now).

5. Getting fit (long overdue!)
I've been wanting to go on a proper healthy diet and start exercising ever since, forever. Fingers-crossed I don't bail on the whole healthy plan these holidays like I did last year and the year before that and the year before that.
I think I'm going to get a bunch of X-ray's and checks done as well. I'm feeling very fatigued nowadays despite my easy schedule. I wonder what's up inside...

6. Hitting the Mall
This is also long overdue. Let's see how I can turn my small allowance into some new threads. AND SHOES. 1U here I come!

So,
Here'r six of the things I've got planned post-exams. I can't wait. For now though, all I'm looking forward to is Nicole's Pool Party later today, Archie and Sugan's Open Houses on Deepavali day and the ELDS Gala next Saturday.
FYI, Sugan's parents own a massive catering business and I think you kinda know why I'm already so excited! :D

Mr DG and some 'Thai' food,

My brain is taking a bit of a toll on me. I can barely understand anything I read and physics seems to be taking ages to decipher. BRAIN, Y U NO WORK?

On a lighter, more jaunty note, two (or was it three?) Mondays ago, we had lunch with the District Governor of District 3300 at the Sri Thai Restaurant, Petaling Jaya.

You're probably a teeny bit clueless at this point so let me clarify. Firstly, by we, I meant the Board of Directors of Interact Club of Assunta. Every year, the district governor pays our 'territory' a visit. Along with the six other ICCPJ schools, some roteractors and rotarians, we join the district governor for lunch. We basically tell him and the rest of the people present about how our club has progressed and give little snippets of projects that we have executed and are planning. The DG then gives us some advice and asks us some questions. Besides that, the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya, our host club also presents the 'Best Interact Club', 'Best Quarterly Report' and 'Most Improved Club' awards to the respective recipients. That's about all you'll need to know, the pictures will tell the rest of the story!

I'm beat. It's time for a nice long eight hour sleep. See you folks' after finals, if I survive, that is! >:/

A night of very rich brownies

Last Saturday was a day I was looking forward to after a month of monotonicity. As per tradition, after Installation, it was time for the newly elected Interact Club of Assunta (ICSMKA) Board of Directors (BOD) to give the 'retired' BOD a treat.

This year we picked TGIF, Sunway Pyramid. We were supposed to crash at Florence's uncle's restaurant, Memphis but due to some time slot issues we decided on TGIF instead.

The 'dinner' was scheduled to begin at 7 but as per tradition as well, many were (fashionably) late. The night began with the usual picture taking and noise making. Everyone seemed to gel perfectly and every few minutes or so there was a burst of laughter.

When everyone was finally there, we placed our orders. That took awhile because there were about seventeen of us and only one waiter. The fact that most of us starved for the entire day didn't make it easier for the freaky waiter guy either.

The food arrived, and again, picture-taking, noise-making and ... food-swallowing.

Shu Jing, our ex-Secreatary's birthday was just a few days back so dinner was a bit of a double-celebration. I think we're all aware of what happens at TGIF when it's (sort of) your birthday.

After a whole lot of food and brownies, we were stuffed and could barely get off our seats. When we finally did, we took more pictures.

The bill was settled and each of us newly elected's payed a painful RM 90 each.

My night ended with a long ride home listening to Florence's new fetish, old music and then half an hour of X-Factor.

P/s My SD card malfunctioned thus causing the death of a whole lot of pictures. Unfortunately, those were the nicer looking lot. RIP.

Review: Angels and Demons

So, finals are about 10 days away and I'm not feeling the pressure yet. Something is really wrong with me.
Anyways, my life is as boring as hell and I have not been out of home for a very long while (not counting tuition) and so I have nothing 'interesting' to yap about. SO, I'm gonna write a book review, I think?!

So, the book I've picked is Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

At the end of last year, whilst browsing a thrifty book store, I was looking for something to read and since everyone was reading Dan Brown and because the book cost only RM 17.90 (cheap-o me couldn't resist), I decided to pick up a copy. I never really finished reading the book though, until September. I read a few pages and as usual, things came up so I tossed it aside.

However, during the holidays, since my life was so mundanely boring and I was just too lazy to do some overdue revision, I started reading Angels and Demons again from scratch. This time, I must say, putting the book down was terribly hard. I used to go up to my room to take a shower and see the book lying on my bed, and I would tell myself five minutes of reading won't hurt but when I finally put the book down to respond to natures call or something, I would realize an hour had passed. It was definitely a page turner.

The book if summed up, is a labyrinthine race against time.

Your adrenaline gets pumping and cold sweat trickles down your temples as you flip the pages of the book. Every page tells an unexpected excerpt of the story and the ending you're expecting changes ever so often as there are so many sudden twists. The book also takes you back in time and illustrates the time of the crusades (this probably seams a little of place since it involves Muslims but you'll get it when you read the book) and Galileo's efforts to explore science despite the Catholic church.

I personally enjoyed the last few pages the most. It was the climax of the book and as time was ticking towards the destruction of the Vatican city, everyones racing against the clock to find the man who was catalyst to the resurrection of Illuminati, an ancient brotherhood and of course get the antimatter canister.

I was trying my best to write this post without any spoilers but looks like I've failed. Nevertheless, I hope those spoilers make you want to read this book more.

It's an amazing read and I don't see what better things you can do with your time after finals, SPM or PMR is over.
